Biography of Neko Case | |||
|
She often associates herself with Canadian musicians, including 'The New Pornographers', 'Carolyn Mark' and 'The Sadies'. She has recorded several numbers penned by Canadian songwriters on her EP Canadian Amp. As a consequence, Neko Case has become a celebrity in the Canadian musical circuit. She had also recorded several cover versions of songs by well-known artists such as Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Loretta Lynn, Tom Waits, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Queen.
Neko Case is best known for her solo career and as a member of the 'New Pornographers'. For many years Neko Case traveled around performing, and recording as 'Neko Case & Her Boyfriends' before switching to her own name. She produced country music on her 1997 album called "The Virginian" with 'Her Boyfriend'. The album had original compositions and covers of songs by Loretta Lynn, Ernest Tubb, and even the 1974 Queen song "Misfire". When critics heard the album, they compared Neko Case to honky-tonk singers like Lynn and Patsy Cline. In 2006 came, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood", which critics hailed as a trademark vocals of Neko Case but also her use of stark imagery and non-standard song structures. This album hit the several "Best of 2006" lists, such as #1 on the Amazon.com music editors' picks and # 2 on NPR's All Songs Considered. Of late, Neko Case learnt to enliven her shows by frequently infusing humorous narratives into her live performances. This was indeed Wanda Jackson's technique that she picked up to breathe life into a live show. Neko Case was ultimately honored as the Female Artist of the Year. She was also placed at 52 on the Top 200 albums list. |
