Biography of Neko Case

Neko Case is a famous American singer and songwriter and is very sensitive about her artistic independence and brooks no interference from others in her creativity. As a consequence, she spurned several offers from major record labels since they do not offer her enough independence in her work. She likes to be in total command of her musical creations. A stickler to ethics, Neko Case has a sharp business sense and clear-cut views about her artistic goals. She stayed with Mint Records in Canada and Bloodshot and ANTI in America.

Neko Case was born on September 8, 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia, United States. Her parents were of Ukrainian ancestry. They frequently traveled around before finally settling in Tacoma, Washington, the city Neko Case considers her hometown. She studied at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1998 she graduated with Bachelor degree in Fine Arts.

Her musical career began in Canada. In 1994, Neko Case had moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, to study at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. During the period from 1994-1998 she performed with various punk local bands, of which Maow and Cub were prominent. Neko Case recorded vocals for a few songs for 'The New Pornographers' first album, "Mass Romantic" that was released on 28 November 2000, which became a huge hit.
